Sustainance®

Sustainable Governance ensures the efficacy of the individual in collaboration!

Our commitment to Sustainable Governance (Sustainance®) dates back to the year 2000. At that time, we had already been accompanying large organisations in their development for several years and pursued ambitious goals. The results achieved were impressive, our customers were satisfied.

In 2008, a research program was developed from those experiences at the Institute for Systemic Management and Public Governance (IMP) at the University of St. Gallen. In the same year, the Spin-Off Sustainance was founded to make the findings of the research practice accessible.

Over time, however, it became apparent that the initiated developments and methodologies were indeed implemented, but did not have an impact as broad and sustainable as we had intended. This led to the question of how development and change can be sustainably maintained in an organisation in the long term.

The transdisciplinary system and complexity sciences are the foundation of our work of Sustainance. We continue to develop our expertise and services in close relation to current scientific research.

In 2002, a transdisciplinary research project was initiated on this question. It lead to the development of a general, generic approach to the development of sustainable social systems (Generic Governance®). After the completion of a dissertation on the subject, the findings were tested in practice over four years in the context of a Sankt Gallen Management Centre. This included applications in different sectors, subject areas and languages through which the resulting approach has been systematically developed.
